Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ:
Even as it still burns, the Camp Fire in Butte County, California, has already proven one of the most destructive fires in state history. The near-total loss of the city of Paradise has claimed most of its schools, and families have found themselves to other cities and towns across the Diocese of Sacramento. Many will be unable to return and finish their school year in Paradise.
We have open seats in our Catholic elementary schools and high school in the Northern Sacramento Valley, and we would like to make them available to these displaced Paradise students. We will waive tuition for these students for the remainder of the year. This may be one of the few options they have, as the schools in their hometown have been damaged or destroyed. In addition to these new families, many of our current school families have lost their homes and will also need support as they rebuild.
We ask your help in supporting these families. We would be appreciative if you would join us in sponsoring these affected students at our Catholic schools with a donation of any amount. Though it is difficult to project an exact need, we will use funds for such things as uniforms, school materials, hot lunches, field trips, and other expenses associated with educating a child, as well as material and tuition relief for our currently enrolled school families in need. Any surplus will be used for future support for these affected families and Catholic schools of the region.
