Statement from Bishop Jaime Soto on the letter of former nuncio, Archbishop Carlo Maria Vigano

This weekend, a former papal nuncio (Vatican ambassador) to the United States released a letter accusing Pope Francis, along with other officials in Rome and certain American bishops, of complicity in covering up allegations of sexual misconduct against Archbishop Theodore McCarrick, former Archbishop of Washington, D.C.

The concerns raised by the former nuncio, Archbishop Carlo Maria Viganò, are serious and call for an honest, transparent response.

Please pray for our Church. Let us pray for one another, that we may turn with faith to Christ Jesus, who is the one who makes the Church holy despite our frail humanity. May His Holy Spirit heal us, purify us, and renew us.

Please pray for all victims of sexual abuse. The revelations and concerns of these past weeks renew the wounds they have suffered.  We must renew our commitment to unite our hearts with theirs in seeking the Lord’s saving mercy and grace.
