Reflection for the Second Sunday of Advent 2018

Prepare the way for the Lord!

In the second week of Advent, we see how our communities are beginning to transform as everything points to the grand event that is coming, the arrival of the Messiah. This time of year highlights the emotions and suspense in both children and adults: Like St. John the Baptist, we too are preparing for the way of the Lord, through our prayer that is present in the novenas, feasts, and family and communal celebrations of this special time of the liturgical year.

The Prophet from the Desert asks for us to convert and stay on the path set by Christ: to be hospitable, to be co-responsible, so that we can transform the hearts of those around us. This is the building block for us to be good Christians. We cannot afford to be indifferent to so much suffering in our communities. Our good will is spreading and we don’t find it difficult to serve, be helpful, and be kind to others because of the joyous time that surrounds us.

As St. Paul states in the second reading today: “this is my prayer:
that your love may increase ever more and more
in knowledge and every kind of perception,
to discern what is of value,
so that you may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ,
filled with the fruit of righteousness
that comes through Jesus Christ
for the glory and praise of God.” (Phil. 1:9-11)
