November-December 2023 Catholic Herald magazine is published

The November-December 2023 issue of Catholic Herald magazine has been published. The theme for this issue is lay ministry and volunteers. The digital edition of the magazine is available at https://catholicmagazines.org/magazine-archive/catholic-herald/sac1123

In the cover story of this issue, "We are the body of Christ born for this time," readers meet Dr. Steven Braatz of Sacred Heart Parish of Susanville, Marcela Mora of St. John the Baptist Parish in Folsom, and Dr. Michael Durant of St. Teresa of Avila and St. Joseph parishes in Auburn, three recent alumni of the diocese's Lay Mission Project apostolate. They all make one thing abundantly clear -- the inner formation of the faithful reveals new and previously unexpressed ideas and possibilities for the body of Christ, the larger community and the mission of Jesus.

Other stories in this issue include Bishop Jaime Soto's column on "We've been chosen and placed by the wise and merciful hands of God to share in the joy of heaven's amazing gift"; a feature story on Marge Remedios of Our Lady of Mercy Parish in Redding and Alan Price of St. Basil Parish in Vallejo, two of Catholic Charities' amazing volunteers; a feature story on the Lay Mission Project and how it combines theology courses, retreats and workshops -- all with life-giving practical application; and a feature story on retired volunteers who give back to the church and their community through Mount St. Joseph Wines in Loomis.

This issue also includes a column by Father Joe Krupp on "There was no funeral Mass for my dear friend"; a column on "How to help the elderly and those who serve them"; and a Teens Living Well column on "Shining God's Light into cyber-bullying";

Bishop Jaime Soto is the publisher of Catholic Herald magazine, which is published six times each year and includes moving faith stories about Catholics in the diocese, as well as news and events of the local church.
