The July-August issue of Catholic Herald magazine has been published. The theme for this issue is lay ministry. The digital edition of the magazine is available at http://faithdigital.org/Sacramento/SAC0719/
In the cover story of the July-August issue, Catholic Herald features three participants of the Lay Mission Project, the diocese's three-year advanced lay formation process, who look forward to completing their certification as lay ministry leaders in July. They are among 78 Lay Mission Project graduates who are eager to use their newfound knowledge and skills to minister in their parishes, as well as to influence others and witness to Christ in their professions.
Other stories in this issue include a feature on Fathers Dean Marshall, Manuel Rodriguez and Steven Wood, three new priests who were ordained to the priesthood by Bishop Jaime Soto during an ordination Mass on June 1; a feature on Deacon Errol and Julie Kissinger, participants in the Lay Mission Project, who are helping to animate the laity toward service to the world, noting that "ministry is broader than what we do at one parish;" an interview with Dominican Father Michael Sweeney, who is devoted to equipping laypeople to bring the light of Christ into their professions and communities; and a feature on Bob Laywell of St. Mel Parish in Fair Oaks, who "brings Jesus" to the patients at Mercy San Juan Medical Center in Carmichael.
Bishop Jaime Soto is the publisher of Catholic Herald magazine, which is published six times each year and includes moving faith stories and high-quality photography about Catholics in the diocese, as well as news and events of the local church. Individual faith stories are the cornerstone of the magazine and columns also explore the Catholic faith and education about church teachings.
