July-August issue of Catholic Herald magazine is published

The July-August issue of Catholic Herald, the magazine of the Diocese of Sacramento, has been published. The digital edition is available on the right margin of this website or at the image to the left of this story.

The theme of the July-August issue is priestly vocations in the Diocese of Sacramento. The cover story features how Fathers Brian Soliven, Colin Wen and Raj Derivera all were influenced in discerning their vocation to the priesthood by being involved in campus ministry at the Newman Catholic Center at UC Davis during their college years. While each priest traveled a different path, being involved in campus ministry opened up space for discernment and assisted in their journeys to ordination.

Other feature stories include a feature on Joselito and Gina Santos, members of Holy Spirit Parish in Fairfield and the parents of Father Jeremy Santos, reflecting on their son's call to priesthood; a feature on three new priests for the diocese, Fathers Edgardo Garcia, Andres Emmanuelli and Joshua Sia; on how Holy Family Parish in Weed recovered from the devastating fire that destroyed the church and how the new church and facilities were dedicated on May 29; and on three priests of the diocese who are retiring after many decades of service: Msgr. James Kidder, Father Philip Wells and Father John Healy.

Bishop Jaime Soto is publisher of the magazine, which is published six times each year and includes moving faith stories and high-quality photography about Catholics in the diocese as well as news and events of the local church. Individual faith stories are the cornerstone of Catholic Herald Magazine and columns also explore the Catholic faith and educate about the teachings of the church.
