Bishop Soto, Bishop Weigand to preside at Holy Week, Easter liturgies

Bishop Jaime Soto and Bishop Emeritus William K. Weigand will preside over a full schedule of Holy Week and Easter liturgies. All services will be held at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, located at 1017 11th St. in downtown Sacramento.

On Holy Thursday, March 29, Bishop Soto will preside at a communal penance service beginning at 12:10 p.m. in the cathedral, joined by Bishop Weigand. There will be no Mass celebrated and visiting clergy will be available for individual confessions. That evening at 7 p.m., Bishop Soto will preside, joined by Bishop Weigand, at the Mass of the Lord’s Supper (bilingual), followed by eucharistic adoration.

On Good Friday, March 30, Bishop Soto will preside at the Celebration of the Lord’s Passion at 12:10 p.m. in the cathedral. The service will include the Liturgy of the Word, Veneration of the Cross, and Communion. Stations of the Cross will follow the liturgy. Bishop Weigand will preside at the Good Friday service in Spanish at 7:30 p.m. in the cathedral. Stations of the Cross in Spanish will be held at 7 p.m.

On Holy Saturday, March 31, Bishop Soto will preside at the celebration of the Easter Vigil liturgy at 8 p.m. in the cathedral. The Mass will be bilingual.

On Easter Sunday, April 1, Bishop Weigand will preside at the celebration of Easter Mass at 7:30 a.m. (English) in the cathedral. Easter Sunday at 11 a.m., American Sign Language interpreted Mass will be celebrated in the cathedral. "This is the perfect opportunity for deaf Catholics in the greater Sacramento region to invite family and friends to worship together in our beautiful cathedral. On Holy Saturday, March 31, the Diocese of Sacramento, in collaboration with Radio Santisimo Sacramento, will host the fifth annual bilingual pilgrimage walk to seven parishes within the city of Sacramento. Bishop Soto will participate. It will begin at 7 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Church, located at 1817 12th St. and conclude at the National Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe at 711 T Street. A plenary indulgence will be associated with participation, along with the requisite confession, Communion and prayers for the intentions of the Holy Father.
