Bishop Cotta crowns statue of Our Lady of Fatima and consecrates the Diocese of Sacramento to the Immaculate Heart of Mary

On Saturday May 13, over 300 people attended Mass at Christ the King Passionist Retreat Center to join Bishop Cotta as he crowned the statue of Our Lady of Fatima and consecrated the Diocese of Sacramento to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

In his homily, Bishop Cotta explained how the statue, an exact replica of the original, was gifted to him in 2014 by Sister Julia Fonseca. Her wish was so that people who could not make the pilgrimage to Portugal, could visit a shrine in their local area. Bishop Cotta also placed relics of the newly canonized saints, Jacinta and Francisco Marto, two of the children of Fatima, at the feet of Our Lady.

The Passionist Community at Christ the King feel especially honored to have been entrusted as the custodians of the statue and a special shrine has been constructed adjacent to the Chapel where people are welcome to pay homage to Our Lady.
