Bishop Jaime Soto will preside at the Chrism Mass in the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament.
The people of the diocese are invited to attend the Mass, where Bishop Soto and the priests of the diocese will pray for God’s continued blessings on the local church of Sacramento. The priests will renew their priestly promises.
At this Eucharist, the bishop will bless the three holy oils which are used in sacramental celebrations in all parishes of the diocese throughout the coming year. The oil of catechumens is used to anoint catechumens preparing to join the Catholic faith. The bishop will also consecrate the oil of chrism, with which women and men are anointed as God’s priestly people at baptism and confirmation, and men are anointed in their ordination to the priesthood.
The bishop will also bless the oil used for anointing those in need of healing in the sacrament of the sick.
